Little Surprises

The other morning I drove on a country road to fetch my nieces to take them to school, and on the side of the road I saw a bird with a white tail and a white head. It was a bald eagle. It must have been on the ground near the road because I saw it take off into the air. I had my cell phone with me, but I did not take a picture. I rarely see a bald eagle, so all I think to do is watch. I think seeing a bald eagle can have a special meaning. Eagles are messengers from The Great Spirit, so a sighting could be a message from The Great Spirit or from a loved one who has passed. It could be a good omen that a change is coming or something coming to one's life that is positive. My Native American father passed away many years ago, and my siblings and I feel as though a bald eagle sighting could be our father saying hello. When a bald eagle or a deer crosses my path, I feel as though it is a good message that I am being watched over and not alone. Another interesting moment happened later that day. I had stopped at a pharmacy to pick up pain medication for my sister, and it had been a busy day of running errands. An elderly couple was inline ahead of me, and for some reason the elderly lady was looking back at me occasionally to smile. At the time I thought she was saying sorry that the wait inline is long. When they finished their time at the counter, the elderly lady turned and smiled at me again. I smiled back and walked up to the counter to collect my sister's pain medication. It took a few moments, and I walked passed the customers sitting and waiting for their medication refills. The elderly lady was sitting at the end of the row, and on my way out I walked passed her. I thought I should smile and say goodbye since she had been smiling at me. She smiled back and said goodbye. I thought it nice and strange at the same time. It was sweet of her to be kind and smile, but I had never met her before. And, she looked at me as if she knew me. I left the pharmacy carrying my sister's medication and smiling to myself. Later, I thought about the smiley elderly lady encounter, and I wondered if it could have been an angel in disguise. I have heard that angels appear as humans now and then. Perhaps to bring cheer to our lives or to appear as someone who needs help like a door opened for them. It crossed my mind because it has been a busy week and I do have a lot of concerns on my mind that I have been praying about. Little cheery moments don't happen often, so enjoy them while you can.
